The Struggle for Civil Rights
In the coupled States of America, we are protected by the Bill of Rights to ensure our business to freedom and speech. Though rights were listed, if you were an African American in the 1800s, these rights did non pertain to you. This group of pack suffered a great down of negativity, discrimination, and cruelty to attain equality and civil rights. Black people were willing to be beaten, jailed, and or plane killed to pave the port for our nation today.
Slavery was a way of life to African Americans from the 17th to 20th century. Slaves were bought and sold as property. They were forced to cultivate for free in the coldest and hottest climates. If they were tired, they were beat, sold away from their families, held against their will, or even murdered. African Americans anxiously waited for change as they suffered unsafe and unjust conditions.
White masters brought knuckle downs and made a profit hit of their diligent, yet tiring work load. Our country made their bills off slavery because they cultivated our cotton and tobacco field for free. These innocent people where bought and sold like cars at an auction, go forth them to feel helpless and unworthy.
The living and working conditions of a slave were poor and harsh. The woman had to not only take deal out of her own children, but her masters children as well. She also maintained the masters house and food preparations. The slave men harvest crops and worked as skilled laboring such as carpentry. Most of these slaves were forced away from their families and loved ones to not to be seen by one another again.
These harsh treatments were not taken lightly by President Abraham Lincoln. During the Civil War, he resolute to write the Emancipation of Proclamation, a document abolishing slavery.
