Langston writes about a groyne that rose up and blocked his dreams, forcing him low into the shadows, where he struggles until he decided to fight. Asking for help to transgress down the wall and reveal his dreams that the white society had criminalize him from, his freedom.
Langston Huges was a black man who was born and raised in a racist society. This first stanza describes Langston Huges as a child, one-year-old and naïve to the world surrounding him, where at first his dream seems so bright and reachable. After reading this poem I understand the dream to represents freedom and equality for blacks. In the birth In front of me / Bright as a fair weather - / My dream Langston uses a simile to describe how he viewed his dream, as bright as a sun. This in addition indicates he was too young to understand the times he lived in and the struggles he would have to overcome to accomplish this dream.
In the first lines he tells us he almost forgot his dream but in time he remembers how bright the dream was. By writing that he almost forgot the dream, I think he shows the struggle and the battles he had to go through that he lost sight of the dream for so long that it didnt seem like a reality anymore.
The second verse is about obstacles. And then the wall rose, / Rose slowly, / Slowly, / Between me and my dream. This wall I believe represents discrimination and racism at this present time. The wall of white stood in his way, preventing him from pursuing his dream, preventing him from being free.
